At the outset, I bow before the immortal ideals embodied in our sacred motto:

Satyam Shivam Sundaram — Truth, Auspiciousness, and Beauty.

These timeless values continue to guide our academic journey and institutional vision.

A Year of Growth and Transformation

The Academic Session 2025–26 has been a landmark year in the history of Government College Gurdaspur. This year witnessed not only quantitative growth but also qualitative transformation in every sphere of institutional life.

I am proud to share that we recorded a net increase of 337 admissions in the first year, reflecting the growing trust of society in this institution. This growth is not merely numerical; it symbolizes faith — faith in public education, faith in our faculty, and faith in our collective vision.

Academic Expansion and Excellence

During this academic session, we expanded our academic portfolio with the introduction of four important courses:

  • Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)
  • B.Com (Tax Planning and Management)
  • Master of Commerce (M.Com)
  • Master of Arts in Punjabi

I am pleased to announce that from the academic session 2026–27, we are also launching four additional new courses:

  • M.Sc. (Mathematics)
  • M.A. (English)

This performance reflects the cultural vibrancy of the institution and the dedication of our students. The college also participated in Inter-Zonal Competitions for the first time and won three prizes.

Revival of Quality Assurance

The NAAC accreditation process has been officially revived, reaffirming our commitment towards institutional excellence and accountability. The college has also prepared for NIRF ranking.

A two-day Faculty Development Programme on advanced pedagogical techniques was organized under the guidance of distinguished academic leaders. Our faculty remains the intellectual backbone of the institution and continuously upgrades itself to meet modern academic demands.

Entrepreneurship: From Job Seekers to Job Creators

One of the most remarkable achievements of this year was accomplished under the Entrepreneurship Mindset Curriculum initiated by the Government of Punjab.

  • 132 students registered
  • 123 actively participated
  • 74 students generated actual income

The students collectively generated a revenue of ₹21.05 lakh and established a new benchmark by securing the first position among border-area colleges. Owing to these achievements, the Honourable Governor of Punjab, Gulab Chand Kataria, specially invited Dr. Ashwani Kumar Bhalla on 28-12-2025 to address Vice Chancellors during the conference of Punjab universities. He delivered two sessions of fifty minutes each on the issues faced by border-area colleges, the NAAC system, and higher education. On this occasion, the Honourable Governor also felicitated the Principal of Government College Gurdaspur.

Thus, Government College Gurdaspur emerged as a policy voice at Punjab Raj Bhavan. This is a historic achievement for a government institution. Our students have proved that innovation, courage, and mentorship can transform ideas into economic value. We also organized an Entrepreneurship Development Programme with experts from leading universities. In addition, a one-day workshop on Artificial Intelligence in Entrepreneurship empowered 248 students with future-ready skills aligned with the vision of New India.

Skill Development and Leadership

A two-day skill-based leadership programme was organized to develop ethical leadership, discipline, and decision-making abilities among selected students. We believe that leadership is not a position — it is character expressed through action.

A Mass Communication Workshop trained 50 students in anchoring, script writing, camera handling, and digital media, preparing them for the evolving communication industry.

Cultural Consciousness and Heritage Preservation

Throughout the year, our campus remained culturally vibrant. “Lok Utsav 2025” celebrated the folk traditions of seven Indian states, strengthening unity in diversity. We had the honour of hosting an internationally acclaimed Kathak performance that showcased the spiritual grace of Indian classical heritage. We also organized literary discussions, book review sessions, and seminars on cultural and spiritual themes, fostering intellectual depth among students.

Spiritual and Ethical Foundation

The academic year commenced with the recitation of Sukhmani Sahib Path, invoking divine blessings. We celebrated the Gurpurab of Guru Nanak Dev, the 350th Martyrdom Day of Guru Tegh Bahadur, Safar-e-Shahadat NSS Camp, Basant Panchami, and Vishwakarma Day. These events reminded us that education without values remains incomplete.

National and Civic Responsibility

We celebrated the 77th Republic Day, National Voters Day, National Unity Day, Gandhi Jayanti, and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti. We paid heartfelt tribute to our brave alumnus Lieutenant Navdeep Singh, whose valour continues to inspire generations.

NCC, NSS and Student Achievements

Four NCC cadets were awarded higher ranks for exemplary leadership and discipline. The NSS unit organized cleanliness drives, plantation campaigns, awareness seminars, and community outreach initiatives. A seven-day NSS camp titled “Safar-e-Shahadat” was also organized.

Community Engagement and Social Responsibility

Our institution remains socially aware and responsible. We organized seminars on domestic violence awareness, mental health and suicide prevention, financial literacy, and World Tourism Day in collaboration with the district administration. Student facilities were further strengthened through CSR support

Infrastructure Development

Major infrastructural developments were undertaken:

  • Renovation of the Mini Auditorium
  • Modernization of Computer Labs
  • Installation of three new Smart Classrooms
  • Establishment of a Skill Development Lab under RUSA at a cost of ₹17.41 lakh, where students will receive training in IT skills, business skills, dining etiquette, office etiquette, dress etiquette, and related areas. The lab was inaugurated today by the Honourable Chief Guest.

We take immense pride in our alumni. Brigadier Jaswinder Singh was honoured by the President of India with the Distinguished Service Medal. Lieutenant Navdeep Singh symbolizes supreme sacrifice and honour. Three of our students participated in the Republic Day Parade and Prime Minister’s Rally held in New Delhi.
